What is a file correction?
Law 12/2015, of June 24, popularly known as the law of Spanish nationality for the Sephardim, gave the option of achieving Spanish nationality by the proof of Sephardic origin in Spanish territory as a way to compensate for the injustices committed against that community at the end of the 15th century. Therefore, the concession of the nationality requires that the condition of Sephardic originating in Spain and the special link with that country be justified.
The condition of Sephardic originating in Spain will be accredited by the following means of proof:
a) Certificate issued by the President of the Permanent Commission of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain.
b) Certificate issued by the president or similar position of the Jewish community of the area of residence or hometown of the interested party.
c) Certificate from the competent rabbinical authority, legally recognized in the country of the applicant's habitual residence.
It may happen that the certificate obtained does not comply with these conditions set forth in the law. In that case, the application for nationality will most likely be denied.
Sefar Universal, relying on its team of genealogists, paleographers and historians, offers the service of Correction of Files in order to correct those Acts of Notoriety that have entered the Ministry of Justice of Spain without the Sephardic Jewish Certificate issued by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain, or the certificate issued by the Israeli community of the country of origin or by the Rabbi of the city of residence, as established by the Law of Spanish Nationality by Sephardic origin 12/2015.
Why is it important to correct your file?
Because of not attaching the Sephardic Jewish Certificate issued by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain, or the certificate issued by the Israeli community of the country of origin or by the Rabbi of the city of residence, as established by the Law of Spanish Nationality by Sephardic origin 12/2015, the application for Spanish nationality by Sephardic origin will be denied. Once the application is denied, the correction will have to be made through an appeal, increasing the costs of the same.
